April showers bring...
A whole lot of nothing if your name is Olivia Hawkins.
This weekend I needed to flee the city.
There were a few of reasons—
A) The Sandy Liang Sample Sale. I spent 4 hours in line in 2023 to not end up being able to go inside. Ever since then, I’ve been scarred. I didn’t want to be tempted even a little bit.
B) It was going to rain for 48 hours. I have choice words for the meteorologist that powers the Apple Weather App, because they said that every day last week would be nothing shy of damp. There was sun, warmth, and even more sun. Seems like they got it right this weekend, though.
C) My pockets hurt and I needed my parents to pay for my livelihood. Love you guys!
I often go home considering I grew up just a Metro North ride away, but I hadn’t been since President’s Day Weekend. I had no plans and no prospects, so I packed my Dagne Dover duffle bag way too full for a simple two days at home, and hit the commuter rails eastbound on Friday night.
Going home at 24, coming up on 25, is always a little funny. I was bothered by the college kids that swarm my hometown from the local university, I was on the hunt for a decent matcha, and I still mentally feel 15 at most. My childhood bedroom has been transformed into a more adult, sophisticated space, with the assorted memorabilia like my graduation caps, high school photos, and champagne bottles from when I turned 21. There’s a closet that I should be arrested for the condition of, I have to throw my body against the door and pray to god it stays closed. This weekend I bravely took a look inside and found one too many tops from LF (IYKYK). Why I’m hanging onto them, I wish I knew.
If you know me, you know that I am obsessed with where I grew up. I would love to return and raise a family there one day, but after the financial events of the last week, compounded by my love for nice things, I’m not certain how much a farmhouse in Connecticut is in my cards. A girl can dream, and that I will. I spent the weekend playing this stupid game on my iPad I read will help with cognitive function into my elderly years, eating fantastic food, and watching SVU. I need to move on from that show, so please, hit my line with anything good.

As I write this, we have seven minutes until the release of the White Lotus finale. I have a prediction that Victoria is the one that will sadly parish. If I am right, this is proof. I promise that in this moment, I have not seen it yet, and I will not edit this.
This season was a little disappointing to me. I read a lot of articles about it, and it seems like we’re all in agreement. The characters lacked depth and direction, but at least now I can say Piper noooooo, Lorazepam, Buddhism, in a drawly North Carolina accent. I don’t think Walton Goggins is sexy, but I’m happy for everyone who does. I don’t mean to put him on blast but that’s just how I feel. I love Chelsea.
I watched Adolescence last week, and boy oh boy, was that wild. The child who plays Jaime is an incredible actor, and I was stressed out by each episode only being one take. It was like I was waiting for somebody to mess up, when obviously that would never make its way to Netflix. I also finally got the projector in my room to work and watched that final episode on there. Ultimate vibes.
I also finished reading Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors. What an incredible read. I highly recommend—it was the first book I gave five stars to on Goodreads in a hot minute. If you are a sister who has a sister, this should be required reading. But even if you aren’t, I’m sure you’ll love it. The characters and their relationship truly encapsulates what it’s like for female siblings in such a heartbreaking but enticing and darkly funny way, I wish I could read it all over again for the first time. My next read is Early Thirties by Josh Duboff, I got it off the Library Science book club list because I was in need of guidance. We shall see. It started off a little dark for what I was looking for, but alas. I’ll give it a shot.
My pockets hurting is my own doing. I bought a lot of things last week. Let’s dive into it. The first thing I purchased was something from the Devon Lee Carlson x Reformation collab. I don’t really need any dresses or anything like that, so I got this wide neck, three-quarter sleeve tee that features her dog Daisy. It’s really cute, I can’t wait to dress it up and down.
The next thing I bought was a bag chain from my friend
, who is making custom and pre-made ones on Etsy to raise money for the New York Road Runners Team for Kids. You should support her if you can, because I love her and have loved her for like ten years, and also because it’s an amazing cause. I’ll post a pic of mine on here next week once it arrives.I also succumbed to
’s profile of Cleo Camp’s perfect shirt and bought it before finishing the piece. This seems like the exact top missing from my closet, and I’m so thankful to have found it. I will also post this when it arrives, and probably won’t take it off of my body for many days.My final purchase was from the Sephora sale. It’s go time, gals. I coincidentally ran out of everything that makes me look halfway decent last week, so I rationed before I was able to get 20% off. Here’s what I got:
Merit Glow Serum, I swear by this and wear it every day even if it’s the only thing I put on. It also lasts a while, I don’t remember the last time I bought it before this.
Dae 3-in-1 Hair Cream, this is essential for my slickbacks, blowouts, and just general hair maintenance. I also got the travel size with the flyaway wand for me to keep on me at all times.
Crown Affair Hair Oil, I’ve been loyal to Gisou for around a year, but I find it to be a little too heavy for how fine my hair is. Excited to try out Crown Affair for the first time, I’ve only heard the best of things.
Rare Beauty Gel Waterproof Eyeliner, you all know I love my eyeliner these days. I was using the Victoria Beckham one, and then the Laura Mercier one, but both of those ran out way too fast. Review pending here as well.
This Sunday was business as usual for me. I walked all the way to the UPS Store with my heavy, massive Thred Up packages from my hungover closet cleanout last week, only for it to have closed 6 minutes prior. That was awesome. I found my zen by getting a back massage and a foot massage from my spot, and got dinner from North Dumpling on the way home. This ritual has become very important to me.
I’m excited for it to finally be April, but I want the weather to act like it. I’m ready for for springtime dressing. We got a tease of it last week, but who knows when we’ll get to see it next. I’ve finally been able to expose an ankle and wear flats to work, which is very exciting. My Tabi Ballerina’s are clocked in for another season. Cost per wear, I’m making a profit at this point.

HOW’D I MISS THIS ONE 😭❤️😚👸🏻👸🏻
