Cute-pid
A love letter to Valentine’s Day.
I love Valentine’s Day a lot.
I like it probably more than the average single person. It’s just plain adorable, the pink and the red, the hearts, the candy, the love!
February is typically seen as a dreary month for New Yorkers. We’re over the cold, we’re over the gloom, and we’re looking forward to brighter, warmer days ahead. Valentine’s Day serves as a bright spot in the middle of the slush for me, turning February into a love fest full of things to look forward to.
I’m lucky to be surrounded by friends who also love Valentine’s Day and a workplace that observes. I had a lot to look forward to with or without a partner, and thus ensued a fun-filled day of frills.

I did not wear pink, but I wore my new track jacket and a fuzzy hat. On my way to work I treated myself to a strawberry matcha from Matchaful. I arrived to see notes from not-so-secret admirers, aka coworkers, which made my heart soar. I saw a lot of people picking up flowers on their way home from work. I wore a new skirt from Gimaguas to my friend Elizabeth’s Valentine’s Day party, where the wine was flowing, the pizza was passed, and the vibes were high. I went home happy and alone, looking forward to the next Valentine’s Day 365 days away.
My mom had sent me a care package with candy and trinkets a few days earlier. It reminded me of when I was little, when we would have heart-shaped pink ravioli for dinner and get gifts. They’re some of my fondest holiday memories, Christmas included. I was lucky to grow up in a Valentine’s-positive household, and plan on carrying the tradition forward.
The night before, I stopped by
‘s Feed Me party. I went alone, which was really scary, but I met some wonderful fellow readers with whom I had great conversations with. Going to a party alone during Valentine’s Day week feels very on theme, there’s a feeling in the air of romance, and whether it’s platonic or not, people are excited to meet. I felt that at T.J. Byrnes Bar & Restaurant that night, and am excited for my next opportunity to talk shop with some strangers.

I’m still obsessed with eyeliner. I bought myself some classic Ray Ban Wayfarer’s because the only sunglasses I have are 90’s-inspired Amazon one’s, and I’m taking a weekend trip to Miami at the end of the month. I wanted something classic and forever chic, and this felt like the only answer. Do I have the face for them? We’re about to find out.
I read two books this week, which seems impressive until I tell you they were Kindle Unlimited Freida McFadden books, to which you may be less impressed upon hearing. But two books is two books, and while I didn’t think they were good per-say, I was entertained. After frontloading my year with Joan Didion, I’m reading another corny Kindle Unlimited book, yet another cowboy romance to add to my Rolodex.
I’m watching the latest season of Love Is Blind, and I’m honestly bored. I’ve seen jokes on Twitter that all of the guys look the same, and that made me laugh. New season of The White Lotus is very exciting. That and Severance together at the same time will take over my life shortly, I can feel it.
This week is supposed to be freezing and snowy. Miami can’t come soon enough. If you have any recommendations, feel free to let me know. I’ve only been once, but I’m excited to return and bask in the sun and forget about risking an injury on icy subway stairs daily.
