Get lucky
Ribeyes, cantalope sorbet, scalp treatments, and a $4 headband.
I’m writing this while watching the Chiefs vs. Eagles game, waiting for the Emmys to start. Alone in my apartment. I’m just as confused as you are. Someone please give me a new show to watch. I rewatched The Pitt all weekend, speaking of Emmys. Go Dr. Mel <3.
If you’re reading this promptly, we’re halfway through New York Fashion Week. Congratulations to everyone who has made it this far. I’m going to the Feed Me party tomorrow night, and went to Rats on Thursday night at Nublu, where I lived out a lifelong dream of being face to face with Mark Ronson. Dreams do come true, and sometimes, they come true on Avenue C. I’m very happy with the two events on my calendar, and as some of you know, nothing brings the hater out in me more than NYFW. It just is very frustrating for me to see a brunch hosted by Boohoo and Raising Canes for the launch of some Love Island cast member’s new clothing line. Self awareness is most definitely the most timeless trend of every season.
There were some things I’ve enjoyed so far, I’m not always the troll who lives under the Williamsburg Bridge. Zoë Kravitz x Jessica McCormack was very chic (but even Zoë wanted to get the hell out of dodge the next day), Sandy Liang is always my favorite, and the opening night of J.Crew at 190 Bowery was also fun. This is where my fashion week coverage will end considering I don’t like to speak on things I don’t know anything about (since when, you may be wondering).
This weekend, my sister and I planned a weekend for my mom’s birthday that I’ve been looking forward to for quite sometime. It started with dinner at Lucky’s in Soho, a steakhouse that’s super popular in LA and Montecito and now has a (very tiny) Downtown outpost. There were literally only eight tables, and we felt very thankful to be one of them considering how delicious our meal was. I went in with lower expectations since I had heard it wasn’t anything groundbreaking, but the steak was deliciously tender, my martini came with an extra little sidecar in a shaker, and they presented us with a mountain of onion rings. The whole thing was very novel and chic, if you’re looking for a special occasion, I’d highly recommend.
My outfit for the evening was from Favorite Daughter for obvious reasons, their Creative Director, Carla, posted it last week and I knew it would be perfect for a fancier night out with my favorite gals. Here’s the jacket, and here’s the skort.
I styled it with a zigzag headband (here are cute Amazon ones) I bought from the Grand Street Target on Saturday morning because I had a vision, a white tee from Brandy Melville, my Tabi slip-ons, and my Auto Studio Model C bag.
This outfit really brought out the Annie James in me. She is on my inspo board forever and always. Not only is she a very chic young woman, she’s also a fellow freckled ginger who could use a little loosening up every once in a while. I was channeling Annie if she moved to the Lower East Side and frequented Dimes Square. Comment below where you think Hallie is. I plan on having an Annie James fall, lots of preppy silhouettes, lots of headbands, lots of crossing my fingers.

After Lucky’s, we headed over to Corner Bar for drinks with friends and dessert. The kind people at Corner Bar usually don’t accept reservations without ordering dinner, but they made an exception for us. Love thy neighbor. Their dessert is excellent as are their cocktails, I’d recommend the tiramisu, the cantalope sorbet, the chocolate creme brulee, and the stonefruit spritz.
Any time we’ve ever gotten any treatment together (which is a lot), my mom has mentioned how she would love to go to one of those scalp massage places that’s advertised on TikTok. Since I live in the best city in the world, I knew I could make that happen. I made us appointments at Blissful Headspace Spa in Greenpoint, which came by rave reviews from my coworkers, and a brunch reservation at Chez Ma Tante after. The three of us got their one hour signature scalp massage and steam, and it was truly dreamy. Our scalps were squeaky clean, and they blew out our hair with Dyson’s and brushed it with Mason Pearson brushes before sending us on our merry way. Chez Ma Tante was delicious and I don’t think there’s any better way to start a Sunday than with someone washing your hair for 60 minutes followed by a Bloody Mary with tequila.
On the way back to Manhattan we stopped into the Williamsburg Glossier. They were celebrating the launch of their new compact blushes which my sister and I were both suckered into. I got the shade Plume, the brush, and my compact embossed with my initials for free. I love a gimmick, and I love Glossier! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Glossier was not my first instance of shopping this weekend, and if I’m being honest, I was pretty bad. I’ve been really conscious recently (as you all know since I don’t stop talking about it), so I felt like it was okay to let loose, especially with the changing seasons. I went to the Detox Market on Houston because I was out of makeup remover and wanted to see if there was a clean version, where I walked away with a $50 cleansing balm from True Botanicals. I used it on Saturday Night when I got home, and it worked pretty amazingly so I guess it was worth it, and I don’t have to worry about slowly going blind or developing early wrinkles from poison in the drugstore version I was using.
Something about me is that I love to buy merch from artists, companies, or places I support wholeheartedly. I bought the latest Feed Me shirt, I love my Climax Books hat, I love my U.S. Open Hat, and I have something from every concert I’ve ever been to. One of my favorite things to watch is The Adam Friedland Show, so I bought one of his tees from his drop on Friday. I also bought a shirt at Rats on Thursday night from Will Welch.
I’m playing hooky from work tomorrow because I got tickets to a live taping of Seth Meyers and decided to make a day out of it. Let me know if there’s anything else you think I should do, I don’t get many quiet days in the city to enjoy while everyone is chained to their desks. I might swing by the Gimaguas popup because I’ve already paid of my credit card bill for the month, so nothing else counts, right?
