Summer is dead: here's what's on my fall moodboard
Happy Labor Day!
I, for one, cannot wait for this upcoming Labor Day Weekend.
Waking up each morning to keep my life moving, each afternoon seemingly hotter than the one yesterday, each coffee shop seemingly more crowded than the one yesterday, each work task seemingly getting more and more intense than the one yesterday, is beginning to be extremely fatiguing.
The idea of a crisp fall day, where I can wear sweaters and layers and crewnecks and PANTS for days, arriving at the office or wherever my destination may be without looking life I just came from a hot yoga class, is all that’s on my mind these days.
While I hope everyone enjoys their 4 days of absolute bliss, I’m fast-forwarding to a time in the middle of October where I forget what overheating feels like. Here’s what I’m wearing, doing, and feeling for fall.

Bobs
Recently, my roommate just gave me a makeshift bob in my bathroom. I haven’t had hair this short since probably the third grade, and it’s taking me a hot second to get used to. However, I feel chic, old, and ready to take on a new city. I’m also thoroughly excited to sit and do work somewhere on a brisk day, wearing an oversized turtleneck sweater, pretending like I’m in France and not dodging roaches on the sidewalk (or my house <3).
Ballet flats
Once again a component of my French girl fantasy, a ballet flat is not only extremely cool, but also sensible. If you’re like me and no matter how many pennies you scrape together, you’ll never be able to live out your Margiela or Miu Miu fantasy, here are some options from Reformation, Coach, J. Crew, Alohas, and & Other Stories.
Big bags
Finding a work bag has been truly my cross to bare. Regular canvas tote bags are too flimsy and have no organization, leather bags add too much weight to my already boulder-adjacent laptop, and the strap to shoulder ratio needs to be perfect for commutes. However, I truly believe the age of the tiny bag is over, and chic, massive carryalls a la 2012 are back again. Here are some from Free People, Amazon, COS, and Banana Republic.
Extravagant, rich pastas
Nothing says cozy like a heaping bowl of pasta. And some of the dishes on my Instagram/Pinterest feeds seem like they would cure every issue in my life. One of my favorite food accounts is @justines.table, and I need 1. For her to send me meals to my apartment every evening, and 2. To tell me her grocery list.
Pottery (or just finding a hobby)
I need to get into a pottery studio as soon as possible. If genuinely someone in the New York area knows a place I can go to spin the wheel and make mediocre pots and vases, please dm me on Instagram or text me or call me or send me a sign. But, I truly am longing for some sort of hobby that doesn’t include spending money on overpriced food, staring at a screen, or running.
Books with protagonists that are scary/not cheugy
While spending my days on main characters that are lusted after by multiple people, get their dream job, and living the most extraverted lifestyles while claiming they are introverted is fun and lighthearted, I find most of my literary satisfaction from characters that scare the living sh*t out of me, making me think about their habits morning, noon, and night. I love a twist, I love a turn, and as the sunsets come earlier and earlier, reading outlandish, twisted material can be of the season. Some of my favorites are My Year Of Rest And Relaxation, The Silent Patient, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, and Cleopatra and Frankenstein.
I’m glad that my days of Pinteresting endlessly and aimlessly have provided content. I wish everyone a true weekend of rest and relaxation, and to celebrate fall by finally getting a pumpkin flavored drink from Starbucks.
