Where is a Halloween Costume Catalog when I need it most?
That would be really helpful this weekend, actually.
Halloween stresses me out.
I don’t like searching for a costume, I don’t like wearing said costume, I don’t like coming up with plans, and I’m not even a big candy person.
Living in a big city makes it almost worse, because in a place where things are already hard to get into/expensive, they get impossibly more expensive and hard to get into.
College Halloween is the only time it’s fun and that’s a statement I’m willing to stand by. You plan about four costumes and use only two or three, you don’t really care about looking weird or even wearing a costume because it’s guaranteed that someone is going to wear something a lot crazier and you’re in a bubble of endless opportunity.
I guess I can admit that Halloween was fun in elementary school. We had endless activities, school parties, harvest fairs and candy at 10 am. Every subject had something spooky tied to it and took more time than necessary, making everything a bit more exciting.
Another reason why Halloween was better in elementary school is because of the classic, infamous Halloween catalogs from Party City (not an ad).
Getting those catalogs in the mail was a rush that I haven’t since experienced. They would come around the end of September, giving you ample time to pick out about 5-10 costumes (typically with a red marker or crayon or colored pencil), most of which your mom would reject.
There were the classics. The Candy Corn Witch (?), the Disney princess it-girl of that year, Dorothy from the Wizard Of Oz, etc. You could count on there being multiple of those around the block, probably with some sort of North Face fleece over it because we grew up in Connecticut.
What I would do for a Halloween catalog today. Now, I have to hope my TikTok algorithm picks up around the end of September/early October, but that it serves me niche enough content so that I don’t show up anywhere like I did when space cowgirls were popular, amongst the basic witch (😉) crowd.
The one part about Halloween I do enjoy, shockingly, is the celebrity aspect. In honor of that, let’s play a quick game of hot or not to judge some of the most iconic.
HOT: Snooki as the Pickle Queen (?)
NOT: Anything Heidi Klum has ever done
HOT: Emrata as Marge Simpson
NOT: Katy Perry as a Hot Cheeto
HOT: Benny Drama and Terrence O’Connor as Met Gala Kendall and Kylie
NOT: Kourtney Kardashian as Michael Jackson
Have fun, be safe and send this to someone who also hates Halloween or loves Snooki’s Pickle Queen look.

Love the pictures “O”
10000000% agree. have always hated halloween. last year was the first good one but like you said, its just because of being in college. it's too much work
