Why North West saved Couture Week
Mademoiselle West is in the house and you should be scared.
There’s no doubt in my mind that when North West (and the rest of the Kardashian Kids for that matter) grow up, she’s going to be the coolest person in the world.
From exposing her mom for not listening to Olivia Rodrigo, to telling her to get out of the guest room and dance to the quarantine music, she already has the personality of one thousand reality stars combined.
At just a mere 9 years old, the young Gemini queen (much like her father) showed up in head-to-toe Balenciaga to their Fall 2022 couture show, front row with her grandmother, Kris Jenner, watching her matriarch, Kim Kardashian, make her runway debut, albeit acting like she couldn’t care less.
She then left the show looking far cooler than her family, stopping to pose in her most Kanye-esque outfit, and flipping her hair: As. She. Should.
North’s first couture adventure didn’t stop there. In fact, it only got better. Styled also by Kim’s stylist, Dani Levi, North wore perhaps the most epic archival piece possible: her dad’s one-of-one Pastelle varsity jacket from 2008, to the Jean Paul Gaultier by Olivier Roustig show.
If you’re a Yeezy junkie, I implore you to find a new blog, but you’ll also understand how epic this was. Pastelle was Kanye’s first venture into the fashion world, a failure of sorts from which his Adidas collaboration and namesake clothing brand was born from. A venture my fashion marketing and management classmates and I learned about even, due to it’s impact on the world of fashion’s supernova: Mr. West.
North also sat front row there, sandwiched between her mom, Anna Wintour, and the rest of the Kar-Jenner family that made the Parisian trek. The actual JPG clothes were shadowed by the fact that Black Skinhead by Kanye West was chosen as the track of the show, compelling North to (obviously) bob her head along and distract her from the fact that this was unfortunately a lackluster show. One of the most vital moments from the show (besides Kristen McMenamy taking a tumble) was Kim turning to North at the beginning of the song and simply saying to her “oh——it’s dad’s song.” C’est iconique, no?
I’ve been waiting anxious with anticipation for North West to reach the age where she has a public Instagram, a Vogue (if it’s still around…) cover, a Balenciaga campaign of her own, and paparazzi pictures with Penelope Disick as the coolest girls in 2032. If today was any implication, North West is going to be the most powerful influencer of her generation. She’s going to be their Zoë Kravitz, with billionaire parents and even more power than we knew possible. Quite frankly, I have full faith that North West is going to rule the world.
She was a breath of fresh air from the incredibly stale Couture Season. I’m tired of seeing TikTokers invited to shows, designers stealing from each other, and influencers pretending like they know what’s up. I can’t get enough of these outfits by North on my feed. I’m on the edge of my seat to see what she wears tomorrow, and am fearful that this may be a premature post. The content to be served after this? Sure to be setting the bar for mega-celebrity children to come.
Kris Jenner? Make room on your roster, and don’t forget to ask for 10% while you still can.
