Will ChatGPT take my job?
I'm scared.
The robots taking over has been a fear for many.
When it comes to jobs, it especially feels like a good chunk of them will slowly dissipate into machines, automated responses, and vast lands without any human beings in sight.
I first faced a downfall of this transition when I was traveling this summer. Instead of a person at the airport check-in kiosk, it was a machine who refused to let me check into my flight and crashed upon each attempt. I huffed over to the actual person in the corner, who helped me in a mere thirty seconds and sent me on my way to London.
In fashion, we see this in technology advancements like fitting room try-on assistants, robots who can spray a dress onto Bella Hadid, the overuse of the word “Metaverse”, and many many more investments being made by almost every brand on the market.
One thing that marketers, students, realtors (and beyond) are setting their sights on is ChatGPT. And I’m scared.
If you’re unfamiliar with ChatGPT, it’s basically a program online where you can type in an instruction, and the AI system will generate a written response. Demands you can ask of it include:
Write a book report on Little Women at an eighth grade level.
Make it a little smarter…
Make it 200 words shorter.
Write a college admissions essay for me about my heart-wrenching story of comeuppance.
Make it sadder.
Make it happier!
Rewrite the ending to talk about how amazing I am.
Write a listing for a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom ranch-style home in Dallas, TX. Currently listed at $500,000, features a pool.
Write a blog post about North West attending Paris Fashion Week.
Make it funnier!
You get the gist.
As someone whose job depends on writing quippy, smart, descriptive statements for a brand, I have to say…this robot is living in my head rent free.
My coworkers and I played around with ChatGPT the other day, asking it to come up with names for bags, to write marketing emails, come up with subject lines and SMS alerts. The results were scary good. I definitely can pack a punch in an email better than it can, but in mere seconds they had written a full, absolutely sendable message for customers.
I even asked for it to write a blog post about North West attending Paris Fashion Week, a topic I covered on this platform a few months ago. Here’s what Miss. GPT came up with:
North West, the daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, has been making headlines at this year's fashion week. At just seven years old, she has already become a style icon and a rising star in the fashion industry.
North first made her mark on the fashion scene when she was just a toddler, and since then, she has been steadily growing her fashionista credentials. She has been spotted at several high-profile events and has been seen wearing some of the most coveted designer brands in the world.
This year, North West has been making waves at fashion week events around the world. She has been seen sitting front row at various shows, dressed in her signature bold and daring style. From eclectic prints to bold colors, North is not afraid to take risks when it comes to her fashion choices.
One of the highlights of this year's fashion week was North's appearance at the Chanel show in Paris. The young style icon was dressed in a tweed jacket, a skirt, and a pair of boots from the brand. She looked like a true Chanel muse, and her outfit was praised by fashion critics and fans alike.
Another standout moment of fashion week was North's appearance at the Off-White show in Milan. She was seen wearing a white shirt and black pants, with a pair of Off-White sneakers completing her look. The young fashionista was all smiles as she took in the sights and sounds of the show, and her stylish outfit was a hit with everyone in attendance.
It's clear that North West is a fashion force to be reckoned with, and she's not slowing down anytime soon. Whether she's sitting front row at a fashion show or just running errands with her mom, North always looks stylish and confident. Her fashion sense and her ability to take risks are what make her stand out from the crowd, and we can't wait to see what she will wear next.
In conclusion, North West has made a big impact at this year's fashion week events, and it's clear that she is a rising star in the fashion industry. From her bold and daring style to her confident and fearless approach to fashion, North is sure to continue to make headlines and turn heads for years to come.
While it missed the insight into North diving into her Dad’s old archive, why it was so important for her to be there, and just overall lacked my undeniable charm (🫠), the bot wrote a pretty damn good piece! It even knew what North wore to the shows, where she went, and even formed its own opinion on her rising stardom in the fashion industry.
The main argument for using ChatGPT is typically how simple and easy it is to get quick results. But, there’s a cost. Literally. The program needs about $100,000 a day to run, takes a sh*t ton of energy to do so, and allows children to generate essays and reports instead of actually doing the work and learning like the rest of us did (or sort of).
ChatGPT also doesn’t have the heart and soul of a person like myself. It doesn’t watch 3 hours of TikTok a day, it doesn’t get genuinely excited about a good fashion show, and it definitely doesn’t care more about a pop culture scandal than anything happening in its own personal life. Alas, it didn’t even know who Aire Webster was.
The robot losing seems like a great place for this week’s installation to come to a close. While the billionaires spend millions on this silly little program, I’ll be finding ways to tie in Real Housewives references into marketing emails, writing rants that I call blog posts, and sleep easy, knowing they’ll never be me.
Send this to a friend who also feels like they may lose to the robot revolution.
